Just in time - a fantastic new Mac tool for working with Instapaper

I use Instapaper a lot for saving web pages offline and reading later.  In fact I use mostly to store IBM technical papers and technotes I want to have at my fingers offline.  Instapaper is great, and free, but it works best on mobile devices so I use it on my iPad and iPhone.  Today I realised I wanted it on my Mac.  I have countless bookmarks in Safari that I have to manage and every day I stumble across pages I know wiIl be useful at some indeterminate date in the future but that I don't want to bookmark.  What I want is to keep an offline copy (offline being the key word) of those pages. I know lots of people love Evernote but I really can't get on with it. I tried it again today and again all it does is store the URL and fetch it for me when I want it, which is no good at all.  I can take a clipping from a page into Evernote but that's too much trouble compared with just clicking my "Read Later" bookmarklet from Instapaper and having it automatically saved offline as text.

My timing is perfect though.  Launched just a couple of days' ago in the App Store is "ReadNow".  A shelf OSX application that connects to my Instapaper (or Read Later) account and downloads the text versions for me to read.  Now when I'm looking at a page I simply click my Instapaper bookmarklet and that page is available as both a link and offline text on my task bar (see below).  It costs 3.99 USD which is a bargain but you do have to subscribe to Instapaper itself because the developers of Instapaper won't allow API access to non-subscription accounts.  Still an Instapaper subscription costs 3 USD for 3 months so it's easily worth the cost to me.   I've only had it one morning and it's incredibly useful already.  Oh and you can search the articles and within the downloaded text too.

Thanks for the heads' up Gab! I use Instapaper extensively, much as you obviously do.

PS Any idea why your blog has no horizontal scroll bar when displayed on a 1024x768 display?
